Advanced Training Squadron

ATS cadets come from all sorts of backgrounds: physically strong to weak, some super intelligent to those who struggle with study. Whatever your background or status, ATS will help you prepare to train future cadets.

If you ask any cadet that is a graduate of ATS to tell you about the school, you will be told that you learn to work as a team, that you learn servant leadership, that you learn to never quit, and that it is hard. Before the conversation is over you will be told, “You just have to go through it to understand!” That’s because the school is not a type of environment that shows you all the points of good servant leadership; you have to live the environment of good servant leadership in the school. It’s not an environment that teaches you good team work points and principles, you have to live good team work and principles to understand them. ATS helps cadets define, and practically work through, the core values and regulations for the purpose of rising up and leading not only CAP cadets, but others in your life outside of CAP.

As an ATS student, you will be pushed harder mentally and physically than you ever have, regardless of your background or training. You will discover the value and friendship of fellow cadets regardless of age difference, grade, gender or race. All of these things are used to develop the mindset needed for the successful training of future cadets.

It is impossible to describe what it is like to go through ATS or to be an ATS cadet, but after going through ATS you will understand that “being an ATS cadet is not about completing the school...it is a state of mind.”

Encampment
Encampment is usually the first activity a basic cadet attends. Encampment teaches the cadet basic military drill, teamwork, and knowledge of the other areas that cadets can get involved in during their cadet career. Basic Encampment is for those cadets that have not previously attended an Encampment. Encampment is required for cadets to promote to the officer grades. It is also required for a cadet to attend the Lone Star Emeregency Services Academy, Intermediate Encampment, ATS, or any National Cadet Special Activities. A cadet at basic encampment will learn how to drill as part of a flight, teamwork, Aerospace opportunities, leadership opportunities and other classes. Please see CAPR 52-16 Chapter 5 for all opportunities that encampment offers.

Cadet Training and Education Programs (CTEP)
CTEP Leadership School is made up of four different cadet schools and one senior school. CTEP is designed to take cadets as they progress through the program and give them both the knowledge and skills to lead cadets at their level of responsibility.

Officer Training School (OTS)
Officer Training School is the third level in the Cadet Training Education Program. OTS is a Texas Wing Leadership Seminar that introduces several techniques needed for effective performance as a cadet officer. Students are instructed on how to effectively manage, serve in various officer positions, and facilitate their squadron meeting. The instruction given in class is coupled with group leadership projects and planning sessions. These activities provide cadets a way to apply what they have learned during their training.
