20 June 2005 Camp Maxey-
Today began bright and early, well technically dark and early for basics
and staff. They started off with a quick breakfast and a vigorous
workout, then headed to the classroom.
Classes today were taught by reservists, covering Air Power, the role of
the Air Force, and Career Opportunities.
The day was completed with plenty of flight time, where flight staff
could instruct their students in drill, memorization, and of course,
inspection preparation.
Taking advantage of the glorious weather outside, these cadets spent
most of the morning outside.
First, they prepared their ground team
equipment. Afterwards, took an intense course in knot-tying (search and
rescue knots of course).
They also began the GSARSS tradition of the litter carry today,
involving carrying their “stokes basket”, as a team, through an obstacle
course. GSARSS finished up their day with a basic communications course
and a class on finding and reacting to search clues.
After a light PT and breakfast this morning, the cadets and seniors
began classes on the detailed works of the radios and antennas. After
that they used those skills to start building their own group antenna.
And yes, some cadets were even taking notes.
