CAMP MAXEY, TX – Today,
after the 0500 wakeup call, cadets assembled at the PT strip. This
morning, however, they were in for a delightful surprise. Due to the
rain and lightning, PT was canceled for the day and flights were given
an extra hour to polish up their uniforms and straighten out their
bunks.
After chow, which was served at 0800, the flights went over their SOIs,
preparing themselves for the knowledge bowl which was to be held the
following day. Golf and Hotel flight left for the firing range, the last
two flights to shoot the .22 rifles. At around 0930, the flights went
outside for more drill, each flight trying to perfect itself before the
end of encampment. At 1215 lunch was served, and the flights once again
had TAC time with their TAC officers. After lunch, the cadets had
another class, while the flight staff took turns keeping their tired
cadets from falling asleep in the comfortable air conditioned room.
At the end of class, cadets changed into PT clothes and headed over to
the PIR field for some Pass-In-Review practice. At approximately 1800,
the cadets marched back inside for dinner. After dinner, the cadets took
a post test to see just how much they actually learned at encampment.
The rest of the time was filled in with flight time, and SOI study and
skit time, in which each of the flights worked on a skit for dining out.
Personal time came and went too quickly, and at 2215, cadets were
sleeping in their bunks, worn out and yet excited that the week was
almost over.
