WAXAHACHIE,
Texas - Thanks to Senior Member Michelle Weisskopf Texas cadets just
learned the difference from a normal soda can drink and a hazardous
look-a-like.
After Senior Member Michelle Weisskopf”s class on Drug Demand Reduction
(DDR), Waxahachie, Texas cadets now know what’s really in that can.
Convenient stores have recently been selling alcopops. Alcopops are
alcoholic beverages fused with four times the caffeine and sugar that a
regular Coca-cola would contain. This in turn leads to intoxication
happening faster than with a normal alcoholic beverage. Also, a news
station did a survey which showed that only four out of six convenient
stores even asked for identification when an undercover minor for the
news station attempted purchased an alcopop.
After the DDR class, the cadets
performed a skit to let the squadron members know about hazardous
effects alcopops can cause.

Although Mrs. Weisskopf only joined CAP four months ago, she quite
enjoys teaching Drug Demand Reduction to cadets.
She says, “The only way you can tell what you are purchasing is if you
read the label and nutrition facts on the bottle closely.”
But
next time these Texas cadets are buying drinks at local convenient
stores, they will know exactly what not to buy.
